Whitecross Green Wood BBOWT Reserve,24th August

Spent an hour or so around the reserve today. Insect numbers were low and i'm just going to have to face up to the fact that the season is nearly over :-(

Dry Sandford pit & Parsonage moor BBOWT Reserves 22nd August

After a disappointing day at radley yesterday I decided that today I would take a look around these reserves to see what Dragonflies were around, I also wanted to see if the Grass- of -Parnassus was in flower and I'm Pleased to say that it was. As for the Dragonflies it was better than yesterday!

Damselflies/Dragonflies seen today:-
Common Blue Damsel, Small Red Damsel 1, Black tailed Skimmer, Keeled Skimmer 3, Brown Hawker, Southern Hawker, Migrant Hawker, Common Darter.

Butterflies seen today:-
Small white, Common Blue, Brown Argus, Small Copper (my 1st of the year!!), Small Tortoiseshell, Red Admiral, Meadow Brown.

Meadow Grasshoppers and Field Grasshoppers were seen, also Long Winged Coneheads.
A Tortoise Shield Bug was seen at Dry Sandford Pit. A Hobby was also seen here.

2 Ravens flew over parsonage moor calling.
Around 6 young Common Lizards were seen on the boardwalk at Parsonage Moor.

Radley Lakes 21st August

I spent a couple of hours here today but there wasn't that much around and it was rather disappointing really. The only real highlight was a Clouded yellow. A Little Egret was seen feeding at the edge of Orchard lake.

Small White 1, Clouded yellow 1, Brown Argus 1, Common Blue 1, Comma 1,
Red Admiral 2, Small Tortoiseshell 1, Speckled Wood 2, Gatekeeper 1, Meadow Brown 2

Damselflies/Dragonflies seen today:-
Common Blue Damsel 5, Common Darter 2, Ruddy Darter 5, No Hawkers seen!

Meadow and field grasshoppers seen also a few Long Winged Coneheads.

Little Egret on Orchard lake and a few Green Sandpipers flying around calling.

Watlington Hill 7th August

I spent a few hours at watlington hill today mainly to see the Silver spotted skipper.30+ were seen flying around the hill and feeding on marjoram.40+ Frog orchids were seen but they were well past their best. A Raven was heard calling while I was walking around.
